PolyFencing Club

In 1883 members of the Regent Street Polytechnic founded a fencing society and so became one of the first professional institutions to bring fencing, previously confined to the well-to-do, within the reach of a much wider proportion of the population. The club was officially constituted within the Polytechnic on 6 June 1898 under the presidency of Douglas Hogg, later Lord Hailsham.

The Polytechnic Fencing Club had both only established fencers but also those approaching the sport for the first time as its members.

They offered an opportunity to participate, enjoy and compete in the sport at all levels and in all weapons.
